SASO announces January 2019 trials of the new system ahead of full June 2019 launch!
The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) has postponed the launch of the SABER system for online certification until January 2019.

The SABER system, intended to become the importer-based computer system designed to facilitate online certification of imports into Saudi Arabia, was originally expected to launch in February 2018. Since then, it has been put on hold to make further changes in order to ensure a system that is both practical and user friendly.

Trials of SABER are now expected to start in January 2019 on a voluntary basis, with an official start date of the full operational system in June 2019 – when the online SABER system will become the central repository of all mandatory certification data.

SASO has advised that manufacturers, exporters and importers should start the process of registering their products within the SABER system on a voluntary basis from the beginning of 2019.

At present it is still suggested that there will be a two-part SABER process, Product Registration and Shipment CoC.

If the planned trial period is successful next year, then it is expected that the new system will become mandatory as of June 2019. However, current SASO Certificates (CoCs) will continue to be accepted until further notice.
